一、狀語從句的分類

1、 時間狀語從句。

2、地點狀語從句。

4、 目的狀語從句。

（1）目的狀語從句通常用in order that和so that來引導，此時的從句中往往含有情態動詞。

->例句1：It‘s best to be as short，clear and factual as possible，in order that there may be no misunderstanding。［為了避免出現誤解，最好儘可能簡短、清晰和實事求是。］

->例句2：She said she wanted tea ready at six so that she could be out by eight。［她說為了八點鐘出門，她想讓茶點在六點鐘準備好。］

特別提醒：so that也可引導結果狀語從句，此時後面的從句不存在情態動詞；另外，分開寫時的so。。。that。。。也表示“結果”。

->例句3：He is so selfish that his teachers and classmates dislike him intensely。［他很自私，老師和同學都極不喜歡他。］

->例句4：They had to take some of his land in order to extend the churchyard。［為了擴大教堂墓地，他們必須佔用他的一些土地。］

->例句5：They were shoving each other out of the way so as to get to the front。［ 為了擠到前面，他們彼此不斷相互推搡。］

->例句6：They have tried to limit such imports in order to protect their members’jobs。［為了保護他們成員的工作，他們一直努力限制這些物品的進口。］

特別提醒：表示否定的目的狀語時，可以用in order not to do或so as not to do。

->例句7：Rose trod with care in order not to spread the dirt。［為了不把泥土弄得到處都是，羅斯走路時小心翼翼。］

->例句8：We keep the window shut in order not to let the flies in。［為了不讓蒼蠅飛進來，我們一直關著窗戶。］

（2）in case that，for fear that和lest都表示“以防”之意，表示一種否定性的目的

->例句1：The foreign teacher spoke slowly in case（that）we misunderstood him。［這位外籍教師講話很慢，以防我們誤解他的意思。］

->例句2：Sam had

（同意；答應；贊成） take an overcoat in case（that）the wind rose。［由於擔心起風，山姆同意帶一件外套。］

->例句3：The parents crept downthe stairs for fear that they should awaken thesleeping baby。［這對父母躡手躡腳地下了樓，以防驚醒睡覺的孩子。］

->例句4：He jotted down his client‘s address lest he should forget it。［他快速記下了客戶的地址，以防遺忘。］
