1。 more than用在數詞前，表示“超過，多於”，相當於over，如

He supervised and trained more than 400 volunteers。

He has been mugged more than once。

4。 more than後接從句，相當於not only， over，含義是：不僅僅，超過，難以，簡直不能；從句中常常有can\could，如：

5。 more than的否定形式：no more than（接名詞、數詞）=only；not more than（名詞、數詞）=at most，no less than，至多，不超過，不含嫌少的含義：

We’ve learned no more than 10 lessons this term。

這學期我們只學了10篇課文。（含有嫌少等意思）

We’ve learned no more than 10 lessons his term。

這學期我們至多學了10篇課文。（不含嫌少的意思）

All his education added up to no more than one year。 他接受的所有的學校教育只有一年。

Their new flat has no more than 60 square metres。 他們的新居只有60平方米。

Lying on the ground was a peasant boy of not more than seventeen。

躺在地上的那個農家男孩最多十七歲。

no more than和no less than前者強調少、後者強調多，如：

He has no more than￥100。這句話的意思：他只有100元。顯然是強調少。

而no less than是強調多時使用的，當表達數量多達某個數值時就要用它。

例如：There were no less than fifty wounded。

受傷者多達50人。

It’s no more than a platitude。

無非是老生常談。

Even if the bill were approved， it would be no more than a stopgap measure。

即使議案獲得批准，它也只不過是個臨時措施。

It‘s true we were acquainted， but no more than that。

我們的確認識，但僅此而已。

它本來應該是一個不超過12名女性的封閉的小圈子。

not more than和not less than前者是至多、後者是至少

這兩個不像前面第一類那樣主觀上強調多或者少，只是用來表達一個上限和下限的數值範圍而已。

not more than就是“不超過” ，“不多於”，跟它直接表達的含義一致，漢語角度可以說是“小於等於”。

例如：It is not more than5 kilograms。

它不會超過5公斤。

這裡只強調了最多5公斤，沒有主觀上強調多或者少的意思。

not less than就是“不少於”，也跟它直接表達的含義一致，非常好記。

例如：The audience was not less than 5 thousand。觀眾不低於5000人。5000就是最低數量。not less than也就是漢語中的“大於等於”。

6。 把more和than拆開用，more+A than +B，強調A弱化B。

The girl is more wise than beautiful 。 這個女孩與其說漂亮，不如說聰明。強調了前者、弱化了後者。

She is more a singer than a dancer。翻譯成：與其說她是舞蹈家，不如說是個歌手。強調前者、弱化後者。
