撲克大家應該都不陌生。

一副牌可以玩8張、5張、釣魚、抽烏龜等遊戲；兩副牌則可以玩鬥地主、升級、打摜蛋、吹牛皮和奇怪的“378Q”。喜歡gambling的人還會玩同花順等高階玩法。總之，撲克是大眾喜聞樂見的益智又能聯誼的遊戲。

儘管在國內流行甚廣，撲克卻誕生於國外，是個“洋”玩意兒。今天我們來看一下撲克牌用英語怎麼說。（對故事不感興趣的朋友可以直接滑到底部看彙總（*￣︶￣））

1、撲克的起源

poker （n。）

card game， 1834， American English， of unknown origin， perhaps from the first element of German Pochspiel， name of a card game similar to poker， from pochen “to brag as a bluff，” literally “to knock， rap” （see poke （v。））。 A popular alternative theory traces the word to French poque， also said to have been a card game resembling poker。 “But without documentation these explanations are mere speculation” ［Barnhart］。 The earlier version of the game in English was called brag。

The game itself originated apparently by 1829， according to later reminiscences， in and around the lower Mississippi region， perhaps among riverboat gamblers。 The original form seems to have been played with a 20-card pack （A-K-Q-J-10） evenly dealt among four players； the full-deck version was played by the 1840s。

撲克，紙牌遊戲，美國英語，來源不詳，可能源於德語 Pochspiel 的前半部分。Pochspiel 是一種類似於撲克的紙牌遊戲，源於德語 pochen，意為“嚇唬別人的吹牛”，字面意思是“敲擊，輕敲”。另一種流行的理論說該詞源於法語 poque，也是一種類似撲克的紙牌遊戲。“只是，由於缺乏文字記錄，這些解釋僅僅是推測。”［Barnhart］ 這款遊戲的早期版本的英文名稱是“吹牛”。

2、個別紙牌角色解釋

撲克在國內的玩法可謂多種多樣，也肯定與國外的玩法千差萬別。但是在一些基本的概念，比如某些特殊紙牌的大小或者角色重要程度上，玩家們應該是有共識的。

根據美國人的玩法，52張撲克中最厲害的牌是 A，全名是 Ace。它有兩種角色，既當數字又當字母：在數字列，它表示1；在字母列，它表示比K更大的存在。

ace （n。）

In English， it meant the side of the die with only one mark before it meant the playing card with one pip （1530s）。 Because this was the lowest roll at dice， ace was used metaphorically in Middle English for “bad luck” or “something of no value；” but as the ace often is the highest playing card， the extended senses based on “excellence， good quality” arose 18c。 as card-playing became popular。

在英語中，Ace 表示骰子中的一點，後來在紙牌遊戲中，Ace 表示數字一。由於在骰子中，Ace 的點數最小，所以在中世紀英語中它的意思是“倒黴”，“沒有價值的東西”；然而在紙牌遊戲中Ace 的地位最高，故而在18世紀紙牌遊戲流行之後，Ace 的意思拓展為“卓越，好品質”。

在 Ace 之下有三張帶人像的紙牌，分別是K——King 國王， Q——Queen 王后，和 J——Jack 王子。

皖北方言把K讀作“老凱”，把Q讀作“皮蛋/皮球”，把J讀作“丁勾”，我一直覺得很是有趣。

joker （n。）

1729， “jester， merry fellow， one who jokes，” agent noun from joke （v。）。 In generic slang use for “any man， fellow， chap” by 1811， which probably is the source of the meaning “odd face card in the deck” （1868）， also often jolly joker。

American manufacturers of playing-cards are wont to include a blank card at the top of the pack； and it is， alas！ true that some thrifty person suggested that the card should not be wasted。 This was the origin of the joker。 ［“St。 James‘s Gazette，” 1894］

Joker，“小丑，愉快的傢伙，愛開玩笑的人”，是動詞 joke 的名詞形式。在俗語中，joker 的意思是“任何人，傢伙”。可能是紙牌中“牌堆裡圖案奇怪的牌面”被命名為 Joker 的來源，也常被叫做 Jolly Joker，快樂的小丑。

美國紙牌製造商習慣在一副紙牌裡增加兩張空白的紙牌，而一些節儉的人建議這兩張牌別浪費了，於是人們在上面印上了小丑。［“St。 James’s Gazette，” 1894］

在美國，小丑的作用是替補。當某張紙牌丟失時，選擇相應顏色的小丑並在上面寫上數字和花色作為替身。

奇怪的是，在我所玩的很多紙牌遊戲中，小丑的角色並不是可有可無，甚至高於Ace。我們稱他們為“大小王/鬼”。這讓遊戲豐富了很多。

3、花色和每張紙牌的叫法

撲克牌的正牌有四種花色，紅心的英文名叫

Heart

，意思是心臟，很容易理解；方塊叫

Diamond

，有“菱形，鑽石”的意思；黑桃叫

Spade

，意思是“鐵鍬，鐵鏟”；梅花叫

Club

，意思有“俱樂部，棍棒，夜總會”。

下面，我們以黑桃為例一起來講一下13張牌應該怎麼說。
