Thanks for clicking， and welcome to this lesson on some common word pairs or expressions with time。

感謝大家點選連結進入本課程，學習一些常用的關於時態變化的片語或短語。

So， not just the word “ time” ， but different expressions we use to indicate time， or different expressions or word pairs we use to talk about how long something takes， or when something happens。

不只是個單詞“時態”，我們還要用不同的詞語來表示時間，我們用不同的表達方式或片語來描述某件事情需要多長時間，或是在什麼時候發生的。

So， first we‘re going to look at five， and then we’re going to look at another five， and each time we go over one of these word pairs I‘ll give you an example sentence， and I want you to， you know， see if you can guess the meaning of this expression from the context， and then I will tell you the actual definition of， you know， what this expression or this word pair means。

首先，我們先講一下前5個，再說一下後5個，每複習這些片語中其中一個時，我會給大家舉個例子，希望你們，能明白。但願你們能從上下文中猜出這個表示式的意思，之後我會告訴大家這個表示式或片語的真正含義。

So， let’s not waste any more time and let‘s begin。

別浪費時間了，開始吧。

Number one： “ then and there” 。

第一個：“當場”。

The sentence is： “ I was hired then and there。” Now， if you know the meaning， obviously， of “ then” ， at that time； and “ there” ， in that place - it means at that moment。

句子是這樣的：“我當場被錄取了。”現在，如果你知道它的含義了，很明顯，“那時”，那個時候，“那裡”，在那個地方—意思就是就在那一刻。

Okay？

懂了嗎？

So at that exact moment。

就在那個時候。

At that moment。

So， imagine you go to a job interview in this case and the interview goes very well， sometimes the person who does your job interview says： “ Okay， we’ll。 。 。 We‘ll call you back and we’ll let you know。” But sometimes if they know that you‘re the right person for the job， they will tell you when。 。 。

因此，想象一下你去參加一場面試，面試過程很順利，面試官有可能會說：“好的，我們打算……我們打算之後再聯絡你，通知結果。”但有時候，如果他們知道你是適合這個崗位的人選，他們會告訴你……

They will ask you， actually： “ When can you start？ ” and they will hire you on the spot， they will hire you then and there， in that moment。

Okay？

So that’s what “ then and there” means， at that moment。

這就是“當場”的意思，就在那一刻。

Or： “ She kissed me then and there。” ， “ I was hired then and there。” Next： “ sooner or later” 。

或是：“她當場親了我。”“我當場就被僱傭了。”接下來：“遲早”。

Sooner or later。

遲早。

“ You‘ll have to do it sooner or later。” So， most of us I think don’t like washing dishes or we don‘t like doing the laundry， and we just look at it in the corner， you know， telling ourselves： “ Okay， we will do it。 Not now， later。 Later。” Okay？

“你遲早都要這麼做”，我認為多數人都不愛刷碗或洗衣服，我們就只是把它扔在那不管，你理解吧，並告訴自己：“好的，我們得這麼做。但不是現在，晚點，晚點的。”懂了麼？

And maybe， you know， somebody will tell you： “ Okay， can you。 。 。 ？ Can you do it now？ Because you will have to do it sooner or later。” And in this case it means eventually。

你也可能知道，某個人會告訴你：“好的，你能？你能現在就做嗎？因為你遲早要做的。”在這種情況下，意思就是早晚都要。

Okay？

懂了嗎？

So， to say something a little more serious： “ Sooner or later we’re all going to die。” You know， it‘s going to happen。

那麼，說一點更嚴肅的話題：“我們所有人早晚都有死亡的一天。”你知道的，這一天早晚都要來。

It’s going to happen。

早晚都會發生的。

That‘s not the happiest memory or the happiest image， but you know， I think you get the meaning。

這在記憶和想象中不是件很快樂的事，但我認為你明白其中的含義了。

Sooner or later。

遲早。

“ Wait and see” 。

“拭目以待”。

Very simply： “ Let’s wait and see what happens。” This just means let‘s be patient。

Be patient。

耐心一點。

Okay？

So， if you are watching a movie with a friend and your friend wants to know what happens next in the movie because you have seen the movie before， and your friend’s like： “ Oh， what happens next？ What happens next？ ” And you just say： “ Wait and see。 Okay？ Just wait and you will see what happens next。” So， just be patient。

那麼，如果你和朋友一起看電影，你的朋友們想知道影片下一幕將會發生什麼，但你已經看過這部電影了，你的朋友會說：“後面發生什麼了？之後怎麼了？”你只是說：“拭目以待吧。好嗎？靜靜地觀賞接下來的一幕吧。”請耐心點。

Now， the final two on the first board are very similar： “ now and then” ， “ from time to time” 。

現在，第一部分的最後兩個片語非常相似：“時不時地”，“不時”。

Both of these， if you look at the sentences： “ I talk to him now and then。” ， “ She reads biographies from time to time。” What do you think these expressions mean？

Sometimes， that‘s right。

So， infrequently or sometimes。

Another word， maybe might be new for some of you guys： “ infrequently” ， not frequently， and these are interchangeable。

另一個單詞，可能對你們某些人來說是陌生的：“很少地”，不經常性的，可交替的。

Okay？

懂了嗎？

So： “ now and then” ， “ from time to time” 。

那麼：“時不時地”，“不時”。

“ We go to restaurants from time to time。” ， “ We go to restaurants now and then。” ， “ I read mystery novels from time to time。” ， “ I read mystery novels now and then。” -“ How often do you call your mom？ ” -“ Now and then。” ， -“ From time to time。” Okay？

“我們時不時地就會去飯店吃”，“我們不時的就會去飯店吃。”“我不時的就會閱讀一些探秘小說”，“我時不時地就會閱讀探秘小說。”-“你多久給你媽媽打一次電話？”-“時不時的就會”，“不時的。”懂了嗎？

So， we have： “ then and there” ， “ sooner or later” ， “ wait and see” ， “ now and then” ， “ from time to time” 。

我們還講了：“當場”，“遲早”，“拭目以待”，“時不時地”，“不時的”。

And now let’s look at five more。

Okay， so the next five。

First： “ quick and easy” 。

第1個：“又快又容易”。

“ The test was quick and easy。” So， something that doesn‘t take a lot of time， is not very difficult， basically let’s just say very easy。

“考試又快又簡單。”不用耗費太多時間做某事，也不難，基本上可以說成很簡單。

Doesn‘t take time， doesn’t take a lot of effort。

不花太多時間和精力。

So， often， if you like to cook and you see recipes on the internet or in a cookbook， you know， some of the cookbooks are called： “ Quick and Easy Recipes” 。

通常的，如果你喜歡做飯，你可以在網上或烹飪書中找到食譜，一些烹飪書被稱作“又快又簡單的食譜”。

So， a quick and easy recipe for pancakes， for example。

So something that doesn‘t take a lot of time and something that is simple， not complicated。

The final four are all very much related to making progress。

最後4個都和進步有很大的關係。

So， think about your own progress in English and learning a new language。

想想你自己在英語方面的進步，並學習一門新語言。

Now， to learn a new language you should go “ slowly but surely” 。

為了學習一門語言，你應該“慢而穩”。

So： “ He’s improving slowly but surely。” So， you‘re doing something slowly， it’s not fast， like learning a language takes time， but if you go watch videos or study your books or listen to movies， you will definitely， like， surely。 。 。

這樣說：“他的進步很慢，但是很穩。”如果你正在慢慢的做著某事，不快，像學習語言一樣耗費時間，但如果你在看影片、看書或看電影，你當然會……

Slowly but surely， definitely improve。

又慢又穩的，這樣肯定會取得進步。

So this just means gradually。

意思就是循序漸進的。

You will gradually improve。

你會逐步得到提升。

Okay？

懂了嗎？

So let‘s go slowly but surely， slowly but surely。

讓我們慢而穩的，循序漸進的。

Next： “ slow and steady” 。

接下來：“緩慢而穩定”。

“ Don’t rush！ Just go slow and steady。” So， you see： “ slowly but surely” ， “ s but s” ， “ slow and steady” ， “ s and s” 。

“彆著急！慢慢的，穩當的。”你學到了：“慢但很穩”，“X但很X”，“緩慢而穩定的”，“X而且X”。

Basically， they both mean gradually or without rushing。

它們基本上都表示循序漸進，不著急的意思。

So， I‘m just going to write without rushing， not rushing。

我準備一筆一劃地寫字，不急於求成。

And if you’re sitting there watching me， saying： “ What is ‘rush’？ What does ‘rushing’ mean？ ” To rush means to do something quickly， very， very fast。

如果你坐在那看著我，說：“‘快點的’是什麼意思？‘著急的’是什麼意思？”快點的意思就是非常非常快的做某事。

Okay？

懂了嗎？

So： “ Don‘t rush。 Just go slow and steady。” Steady， like calmly， at a regular pace。

像這樣：“彆著急。慢慢的，穩當的。”穩當，就好比平靜的，一步一步的。

Not， like， fast， slow， fast， slow， but the same pace。

不像是快會，慢會，快會，慢會，而是一個節奏的。

You’re very focused。

你非常專注。

Okay。

好的。

Next： “ little by little” and “ step by step” 。

接下來：“一點一點的”和“一步一步的”。

Oo， baby。

親。

You guys know what I‘m talking about。

你們應該知道我要說什麼。

So： “ Little bit little， we’re getting there。” Same as here： “ Slowly but surely” ， gradually， “ little by little” ， this is also an Oasis song。

“ Little by little” ， something， something。
