一、

no後面可以接名詞，相當於not a/ not any

。也就是no後面可以接單數名詞，複數名詞，或者是不可數名詞。例如：

There is no bridge over the river。= There is not a bridge over the river。

河上沒有橋。

I have no money。 = I have not any money。

我沒有錢。

We have no lessons this afternoon。 = We have not any lessons this afternoon。

我們今天下午沒有課。

二、

用於比較級的含義不同。

not +比較級的意思是“不如。”， no+比較級的意思是“一樣不。。。”。例如：

John is not taller than Tom。 約翰不如湯姆高。

John is no taller than Tom。 約翰和湯姆一樣不高（=矮）。

no richer than = as poor as

no taller than = as short as

no later than= as early as

三、

not只表示一般的否定，no則語氣較強。

例如：

He‘s not a thief。 他不是小偷。

He’s no thief。 他決不是小偷。

四、

動詞不定式的否定常用not，動名詞的否定用no。

例如：

The teacher told him not to be late again。

老師叫他再不要遲到。

I feel sorry for not telling her the truth。

我後悔沒有跟她說實話。

五、“

禁止”“不許”一般只用no，不用not。

No smoking。 禁止吸菸。

No photos。 不許照相。
