“do sth。 to sb’s face” 的結構表示“當著某人的面做……”

例如：

She praised the lad to his face， and said he was well-grown and very much improved。

她當著孩子的面誇獎他，說他長得好，比以前大有進步了。

More than anything else in the world， I dislike people saying behind my back things they wouldn‘t say to my face。

我最不喜歡有話不當著我的面講，而在我背後亂講。

2 Why’d you stand me up last night？

中文中常說“放某人鴿子”，意思是“爽約”，而英文中用“stand sb。 up”，這個片語表示同樣的意思。

例如：We are supposed to meet at the students‘ union yesterday but she stood me up。

“be sick of” 的意思是“對……厭倦”，“受夠了”。表示後者時，相當於片語“be fed up with”。
