1）兩者通用

在表達提出某種建議的意思「。。。 怎麼樣；。。。 好嗎？」時，“How about” 和 “What about” 是可以互換的，亦即意思是一樣的：

“How/What about a drink？”

（喝杯酒怎麼樣？；喝杯酒好嗎？）。

“Where should we go on vacation？”

“How about Hawaii？”

“What about Japan？”

（「我們該去那裡度假呢？」，「去夏威夷怎麼樣？」，「去日本好嗎？」）。

2）What about

若是徵求意見或打聽訊息，你只能使用 “What about”：

“What about the university？” （強調 about 這個字）

- 這是 “How about 。” 無法表達的意思。

3）How about

可以用來表達對事物的驚訝：“How about those dogs？”

- “What about ” 則沒有這項意思。

如果你提供多項事物讓人選擇，那麼必須使用 “How about” ：

“Here are three jackets you might buy。 How about the grey one？”。
