bare 和 bear 除了拼寫很容易互相弄混之外，其他的沒有任何的關係，它們的區別是天壤之別。

一、bare 既可以作形容詞，意為“裸體的，裸露的；光禿禿的；荒蕪的；無遮蓋的；沒有保護的；最基本的，最重要的；最少的，最低限度的”等，例如：

Don‘t go out in bare feet。 You’ll catch a cold。

別光著腳出去。你會感冒的。

Was the protestor totally bare when he ran in the meeting room？

抗議者在會議室跑的時候是不是全身赤裸？

We haven‘t done our grocery shopping this week， and I’m afraid the cupboards are bare。

這星期我們還沒去買食品雜貨，恐怕櫃子空著。

Bare wires were sticking out of the cable。

電纜露出了裸線。

也可以作動詞，意為“揭開，脫掉”，例如：

The men bared their heads as they entered the church。

這些人走進教堂時，脫掉了帽子。

He became nervous when the dog growled and bared its teeth at him。

當狗向他吼叫並露出牙齒時，他變得緊張起來。

所以 bare 跟熊沒有任何關係。

二、bear 才是真正的熊，它是一種很大的哺乳動物，不過 bear 的用法永遠超過了它的本意，這些用法經常困擾著寫作的人。

1、bear 作名詞時，除了熊的意思外，在證券市場還可以意為“賣空的人”，例如：

The bears are driven by bad economic news from Japan， such as July‘s 2。4% monthly slump in industrial production。

看跌的人是受日本的不好的經濟訊息的影響，比如7月工業生產月環比下降2。4%。

2、bear 作動詞時，用法太豐富了，可以意為“忍受；承擔責任；顯示；支撐；舉止；生（孩子）“等等，這裡簡單例舉，例如：

I can’t bear this stifling humidity。

我受不了這種悶熱的溼氣。

Their baby bears a strong resemblance to its grandfather。

他們的孩子長得很像爺爺。

The chair， too fragile to bear her weight， collapsed。

椅子太脆弱，無法承受她的重量，倒了下來。
